Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate Club Celebrates 50 Years at Hawthorn Leisure Centre with Prestigious BBC Cymru Wales Award Nomination
What a fantastic surprise on the day of our 50th Anniversary celebrations!
Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate Club is proud to announce that, during our special 50th Anniversary event at Hawthorn Leisure Centre, we received the unexpected and wonderful news that we had been nominated for a BBC Cymru Wales Make a Difference Award.
The nomination came as a complete surprise and made an already memorable day even more special.
For half a century, Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate Club has been providing high-quality martial arts training to people of all ages across the local community. Since our establishment in 1975, generations of students have stepped onto the dojo floor at Hawthorn Leisure Centre, learning not only the physical aspects of Kyokushin Karate but also the values of discipline, respect, perseverance, confidence, and community spirit.
The BBC Cymru Wales Make a Difference Awards recognise individuals and groups who make life better for people within their communities. To be nominated for such a prestigious award is a tremendous honour and a testament to the dedication of our instructors, students, families, and supporters who have helped shape the club over the past five decades.
Over the years, the club has welcomed hundreds of members through its doors, helping young people develop confidence and resilience, supporting adults in their personal fitness journeys, and creating lifelong friendships along the way. The club has always aimed to be more than just a place to train—it has become a community where people encourage one another, overcome challenges together, and celebrate each other’s successes.
Receiving this nomination during our anniversary celebrations was a powerful reminder of the positive impact that martial arts can have on people’s lives and the important role local community organisations play in bringing people together.
We would like to thank everyone who has been part of the club’s journey over the last 50 years. Whether you are a current student, a former member, a parent, volunteer, supporter, or friend of the club, this recognition belongs to all of you.
As we look towards the future, we remain committed to continuing our tradition of excellence in Kyokushin Karate while serving our community for many years to come.
Osu!
