Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate Triumphs at the 2024 BKG British Open Knockdown Championships

On Saturday, November 9th, 2024, the Crystal Palace Centre in London was alive with energy and anticipation as martial artists from across the nation gathered for one of the year’s most prestigious events: the BKG British Open Knockdown Championships. Among the elite were members of the Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate dojo, who brought their strength, skill, and spirit to the competition and emerged with phenomenal success.

A heartfelt congratulations goes to Sensei Garry Haines, who earned the title of British Veterans Champion. With his remarkable dedication, technique, and years of experience, Sensei Haines showcased the power and resilience of a true Kyokushin warrior, setting an inspiring example for all.

Equally impressive was the victory of Elai Button, who claimed the title of British Champion in the 12-13 years under 55 kg category. Competing in one of the most challenging junior divisions, Elai’s hard work and commitment to training paid off in a spectacular way. His performance was a testament to his focus and discipline and marked him as a rising star in British Kyokushin.

The achievements of Sensei Haines and Elai would not have been possible without the unwavering support and expert guidance of their coach, Shihan Alwyn Heath, 7th Dan. Shihan Heath’s dedication to developing and inspiring his students is evident in their outstanding performance and success at the championships. His mentorship has built not only champions but also a strong and supportive community of martial artists.

Special thanks go out to all those who lent their encouragement and support. Sensei Denise Jones, Sempai Petra Williams, Owain Button, Senseis Martin & Luke Rees, and Senseis John Heath & Owen Bentley from Hertford Dojo all played crucial roles in fostering a motivating and collaborative atmosphere. Their presence and encouragement exemplify the spirit of Kyokushin – a family that uplifts each other in both victory and challenge.

The dojo’s success at the championships is a fantastic and well-deserved result, representing the dedication, resilience, and passion that each member brings to their training. The triumph at the BKG British Open Knockdown Championships is more than just a series of wins; it’s a celebration of the strength of character, teamwork, and the indomitable Kyokushin spirit that defines Pontypridd Kyokushin Karate.

Here’s to many more victories and to the continued growth of each member. Osu!
