Pontypridd Kyokushin Success at the 2025 BKK British Open Tournament

On Saturday, 4th October 2025, members of Pontypridd Kyokushin travelled to the K2 Arena in Crawley to compete in the prestigious British Kyokushinkai Karate (BKK) Open Tournament — one of the toughest and most respected events in the Kyokushin calendar. The tournament attracted over 300 competitors from all across Europe, bringing together some of the continent’s finest martial artists for a day of intense and inspiring competition.

Representing the club were Sensei Garry Haines and Elai Button, both demonstrating exceptional spirit and determination throughout the day. Sensei Garry competed in the Men’s Veteran Category, showing great composure and fighting spirit, but was unfortunately edged out in the first round by a strong opponent.

In the Boys U16 Under 65kg division, Elai Button delivered a fantastic performance — showcasing skill, power, and control. His hard work and focus paid off as he claimed First Place, securing the British Open Champion title with an impressive winning kick.

Elai was expertly coached by Sensei Garry Haines, whose guidance and experience played a vital role in his success.

A huge congratulations to Elai on this outstanding achievement, and a sincere thank you to all our supporters and travelling team members who made the journey to Crawley to cheer on our fighters. Your continued encouragement and dedication help keep the Kyokushin spirit alive within our dojo.

Osu!

In a stunning display of skill and timing, Elai secured the British title with a perfectly executed jumping back spinning kick, scoring an ippon and knocking his opponent down — winning the match and the championship in style, while showcasing his exceptional precision and power.
