OUR HISTORY

Shihan Alwyn Heath – 7th Dan

ShIhan Alwyn has trained for over 53 years in the Kyokushin Karate style as founded by Sosai Mas Oyama.  Unlike others who have left and  gone on their own & changed the style but still claiming to be Kyokushin – Shihan Alwyn has remained true to Sosai’s Kyokushin principles and not changed the true essence of Sosai’s Kyokushin Karate that he teaches.

Shihan Alwyn entered many competitions having successes in Welsh, British & International competitions.  representing Wales in the 1st European Kyokushin Knockdown competition. He also represented Britain in the 2nd World Kyokushin Open Weight Karate competition where he finished 10th out of over 180 competitors before being forced to withdraw due to injury.
Shihan Alwyn realised his dream when he trained with Sosai Oyama himself in 1992 shortly before Sosai passed away.

Club History

Pontypridd School of Kyokushin Karate was founded by Shihan Alwyn Heath 7th Dan in 1976.   Originally a defunct Tang Soo Do club, Shihan Alwyn turned it into a respected large Dojo with numerous students, who went on to follow Shihan’s tournament success in International and National tournaments, turning out European, British, Welsh, English & Irish Champions. Pontypridd students also went on as team members representing Wales & Britain in International & World Championships.
Sister Club Llantrisant was founded in 1986 and followed in Pontypridd’s footsteps with the success of its own.
To date, the clubs have produced 83 Black Belts – no mean feat as it takes on average 5 – 6 years to achieve a Black Belt. Many of which have gone on to achieve higher Black Belt Level Grades (Dans).
Pontypridd & Llantrisant Black belts have started several other Dojos of their own so spreading the Kyokushin word.
